Himalayan Salt Lamps

Salt crystal lamps are made from salt crystal rocks formed over hundreds of millions of years and mined below the foothills of the Himalayas in Pakistan. Crystal salt is organic and pollutant free. Locals have been using salt since Alexander the great era.The salt lamps are carefully crafted by hand to retain the unique, beautiful and natural shape of the rock. The lit bulb warms the crystals, which increases the release of healthy negative ions to improve the quality and freeshness of the indoor air. Whilst most ionisers are man made machines salt crystal lamps are a beautiful alternative of mother nature and are safe for our environment.

The most common salt products are manufactured from either red or white rock salt. The colouration is dependant upon the natural iron content and the granual size. The finer the granuals then the lighter the lamp appears when light is refracted through it. There is no procesing to get the different colours, white salt products come from white rock salt and red rock salt produces the various shades of orange products.

Himalayan salt differs from common table salt in the way that table salt has had benefitial nutriants removed that are found within salt, leaving behind the sodium chloride we are familiar with.

A salt lamp is a chunk of mined salt that has been hollowed out to allow room for a light fitting or candle. Salt lamps make attractive accent lighting creating a soft warm glow to give a cosy relaxed setting.

Their main attraction however is the healing properties produced through the heating of the salt cauing the crystal to release negative ions that help cleanse and improve the quality and freeshness of the air you breath. The lamps also help remove pollutants and dust particles from the air. They also work to counteract geopathic stress and are used in colour therapy.

Negative ion rich atmospheres such as those created in the dry salt mines themselves help to clear out bronchial tubes and sinuses as well as killing bacteria and microbes.

Other benefits that the lamps are reported to provide include;

  • Creates soothing and relaxing ambience
  • Improves your mood
  • Produces negative ions that reduce electro smog
  • Regulates sleep,
  • Cleanses and freshens the air
  • Reduces asthma symptoms

Care of Lamps

Only ever use the lamps indoors. The lamp should never be soaked with water or kept in a moist room. Lighting the lamp for a few hours will dry a damp lamp out if crystalisation has occured.

Allways turn off the lamp from the mains when moving, repositioning or maintaining the lamp.

Remove the plug from the mains socket before cleaning

Clean lamps with a dry cloth or soft brush. Remove crystalisation with a damp cloth only.

Use a 15w oven bulb. -

To replace -

  • Turn the lamp on its side and slowly pull the fitting out of the lamp, squeeze the springs together
  • Unscrew the bulb
  • Replace with a new correctly sized bulb. Screw firmly into place.
  • Reinsert the fitting by squeezing the two spring loaded clamps together
  • Fully insert the plastic plate up to the hole

Due to the naturall properties of salt crystal, if a lamp is left off for long periods of time during humid or wet weather, water may condense on the lamp and run down the outside. Customers should consider this before placing the lamp on expensive furniture or electrical equipment as salt deposits may stain or spoil the surface. Placing an absorbant mat under the lamp will minimise and prevent damage to the surface.

During long periods of absence we recommend  placing the lamp in a plastic bag and securely tied which will prevent condensation in certain weather conditions.
